BIO - Get to know Almost Gone

Thom Costa

Joe “JoeMac” McWilliams

Starting out as a guitar player Thom Costa and drummer “JoeMac” formed a punk band whose first gig was with the infamous GG Allen back in the late 80’s.

After that, Thom’s musical interest turned to a more diverse taste playing classic rock covers and blues. Thom had been studying jazz with Leo “Dusty” Desautel, who would be a lifelong friend and mentor for over 30 years. Thom became a Bassist and with childhood friend Joemac as part of a 3-piece original heavy metal band called Ace’s High.  They played local bars and had a short stint in an alternative original band called “Stampede of beings” which lasted for only one gig.

From that point they went back to playing blues and became the rhythm section for a band called “showdown” who played locally.

Thom and Joemac then teamed up with two guitar player singers and became “Third Degree”, a classic rock cover band  that played local gigs into the early 90’s eventually going separate ways.

Thom left that band but continued his music education only to come back and team up with Joe who had done short stint in a punk rock band called the Helldorados. They started jamming together trying to get a blues band off the ground.

At the same time Thom took up the mantle of his now passed teacher and mentor and started giving private music lessons.

As their new band, Almost Gone ran into member health issues a side project formed as Thom became the front man and bassist for 3rd Horizon along with Almost Gone guitarist Mark Becker.

Now Thom is the Musical Director, lead singer, and bassist forming Almost Gone’s rhythm section with drummer and lifelong friend Joe “JoeMac” McWilliams.
